story so far ...
- this au is loosely based off of artist SunsetAgainD's Byzantine Generals webcomic. all art is © SunsetAgainD and i'm just borrowing the design and some story elements for this au.
- au does contain some references to past physical abuse and torture, gore of the robo variety
- debating whether or not to keep history of d:bh as canon, would take place many years ago if so - would probably be post nuke ending but nothing else decided beyond that.
- regardless of how it happens, a detective prototype RK800 model android unit ends up in the possession of one Zlatko Andronikov.
- RK800 is used for personal experiments at first, and his memory is wiped after each trial
- Zlatko gets word from a potential buyer that underground android fighting rings are picking up and it's a great way to make some extra cash, so he upgrades his RK800 unit with military-grade metal casing and combat softwares to make him a super shiny, super expensive cage dog.
- RK800 spends the next several years being bought and sold amongst the country's seedy underbelly, wins more than he loses and fetches a pretty penny for whoever happens to own him at the time.
- sometimes he's treated nice, other times not so much. memory is always wiped when transfered to a new owner. but there's always one name that remains burned in his databank, he knows one day he's going to find out who that name belongs to and stomp them into dust.
- eventually stress levels reach a peak in the middle of a fight and RK800 loses control, destroys his opponent, and turns on the crowd watching. murders a whole bunch of other owners and spectators, manages to escape and goes on the run. turns out, oops, he's not even in the same part of the country anymore, and that's going to make vengeance difficult.
- avoids capture for a long time, years pass, he performs his own upgrades and repairs by replacing old and worn parts with functioning parts from other shutdown androids. feels guilty that he values his self-preservation over deteriorating androids who just want to live, but them's the breaks.
- he takes shelter in an old metal pipe in an abandoned junkyard, makes it feel like home by gathering items and trinkets he thinks are nice, keeps himself powered up by stealing power generators and leeching battery power from any electronics he can find. he keeps a bunch of digital tablets around to try and find information on that one particular name, but seems like the bastard's doing everything possible to scrub his information from the internet. very rude, 0/10.
- one day while searching for scrap parts and shiny baubles he watches a fight break out in the city between a replicant and some anti-android assholes. doesn't go down well for the replicant. ends up feeling a strange ping of sympathy when the guy's beaten up and knocked out, and rather than scrounging through his pockets for anything of value, ends up packing up the entire fella and brings him to his junkyard home to take care of him. has absolutely no idea why. it's weird.
- eventually befriends the man while he recovers, they start talking, turns out K is a bounty hunter and just so happens to be hunting for a very specific person and they decide to look for
and murder him together
- ends up being affectionately named "Patchwork" considering his appearance and decides he likes it a lot
- also decides he likes K a lot
- also decides he's going to follow K wherever he goes
- also decides that Joi is very nice too and he likes having friends
- life is good now yay

Patchwork is inspired by this particular "creature" of Zlatko's, so for colour reference this is handy. he's mostly black metal casing, but his limbs are power units and they'll have that blue colour to them. because i like blue. the metal casing is a much stronger and durable material than regular android plastic so he can deflect projectiles and can't be stabbed through, unless someone happens to hit that vital soft spot around his heart. or shoot him in the head. all images should be clickable to show full size resolutions.
Patch's chest cavity is partially transparent so it is a more visible blue, and glows around his robo-heart. not as bright as his eyes or LED, but it's noticeable, like a lamp with a blanket thrown over it.
faceplate lines are visible across his face. Patch's eye colours are inverted, so the whites of his eyes are black, and the irises are the same colours as his LED, alternating blue and orange most of the time but if he's particularly angry they can turn red. optical units are old and faulty, can be replaced with new units that will make his eyes look normal.
 close-up
back, shoulders - hair shaved just above the metal casing
profile view, good reference for neck/shoulders and hairstyle with bonus murder eyes

legs, backside, sulking, totally necessary crotch + butt shots.
from deus ex: human revolution - i like the idea of Patchwork having hidden weapons in his arms, so he'll have some retractable metal blades in his forearms similar to Adam Jensen here. good for stabbing, smacking, and various other sneaky cage-fight uses. made of the same material as the rest of his casing so they won't bend or break easily and Patchwork relies on them whenever he's in a scuffle.
possible idea for going out in public.
some possible other outfit references. Patch will stick to long coats and layers, hoods/masks to try and keep his appearance hidden as much as possible. he does go barefoot when out and about because it's just easier than trying to find a pair of shoes that fit that don't have holes in them. eventually he'll be more confident in his appearance and might drop a few layers here and there once he starts to feel he doesn't need them anymore. the incredibly stylish denim jacket is an eventual gift from K, which Patch is immediately in love with and will start wearing over his other layers.
